Just Starting Out

July 9th, 2006 by Sarah

Feeling okay so far. My mom didn’t have morning sickness, so I hope I’ll be as lucky. Just been feeling a little tired and grumpy…but it’s hard to know how much of it is “baby” and how much of it is “medical student.”

I started my surgical rotation on Wednesday, and came home Thursday and Friday just wiped out. It has been okay so far though–I let everyone know I am pregnant so they can keep me away from X-ray machines and forgive me if I have to run away to pee. I’ll be in surgery for the next 7 weeks–all the way through my first trimester.

Vascular surgery is neat anyway. Lots of blood. Good thing I don’t get queasy.

One great thing about the hospital I am at right now is that they FEED you. Breakfast and lunch is available, and there are drinks and fruit and bins of CRACKERS out all the time. So far, I’m averaging about 10 packs of crackers a day. Keeps a little something in my stomach. Good, since I am so huuunnnnngry.

(By the way—-future baby, if you are reading this someday, you should know how EXCITED everyone is that you are on the way. We have had such a great time telling friends and family about you, even though you aren’t much more than a tiny smudge.)
