Surviving Surgery
July 30th, 2006 by SarahOne of the worst parts of being on a surgery rotation for my first trimester is that I get so HUNGRY, tired and thirsty in the OR. Fortunately I have only really gotten stuck a couple of times, but it is just horrible when it happens.
My sis suggested I hide some sour patch kids in my gloves or something, but as I explained, when you scrub in for a surgery you wash up outside then come in all sterile and the nurse dresses you (so they would TOTALLY see if you tried to hide anything in your outfit). But then I realized that there is one thing you put on before you go enter the room…your MASK.
So then Jess and I came up with all sorts of clever snacks that I could smuggle in in my mask and then munch on during the operation (i.e. baby carrots, trail mix, etc.). Kinda like a feed bag. Brilliant, no?
