Now Playing: Weeks Eleven and Twelve
August 29th, 2006 by SarahWhoops everyone…sorry I haven’t posted in forever. I just finished my surgery rotation last friday (yay!) and so was busy busy busy cramming for my exams. Hopefully I passed! In the meantime, it sounds like the little thing has been growing quite a bit lately–so much in fact that I guess we can now start calling it a “fetus.”
Tomorrow marks the end of twelve weeks and the end of the first trimester (though I’m not sure exactly how that math all works out…12 isn’t exactly 1/3 of 40, but whatever). I cannot believe there is something three inches long just hanging out inside of me. Still seems like a hungry little thing though. Hope it likes pickles and ovaltine.

Eleven weeks:
From now until your 20th week of pregnancy — the halfway mark — your baby will increase his or her weight 30 times and will about triple in length. To make sure your baby gets enough nutrients, the blood vessels in your placenta are growing larger and multiplying.
Your baby is now officially described as a fetus. Your baby’s ears are moving up and to the side of the head this week. By the end of the week, your baby’s external genitalia will develop into a recognizable penis or clitoris and labia majora.
Twelve weeks:
Twelve weeks into your pregnancy, your baby is nearly 3 inches long and weighs about 4/5 of an ounce.
This week marks the arrival of fingernails and toenails. Your baby’s chin and nose will become more refined as well.
