The elevated levels of AFP (which appears in the amniotic fluid, I believe) could indicate Spina Bifida. Fortunately Sarah's levels were within 3-times the mean, which is the level at which our OB gets concerned. Nonetheless, since she was over 2-times the mean, the doc wanted to do a second ultrasound to make sure that growth was progressing normally. It is. Yay!

But still… you didn’t explain what AFP is, or why it would cause you to get another ultrasound… (i looked it up and… “Alpha-Fetoprotein” ??? i’m clueless)
