Icing the Kicker.
March 15th, 2007 by SarahI was SO ready for Baby to come last weekend. I dusted. I vacuumed. I laundered. I cooked. I rested. We went out. But now, with the “due” date come and gone with no Baby popping out (since only SHE knows when the right day will be), I started to get nervous. Part of it is because everyone at work now knows I am due, and the conversation du jour has changed to:
“You haven’t had that Baby YET?”
“Ummm…noooo (duh).”
Add to that 8,000 people asking me if I am having an epidural (which I am not planning on), mixed in with all the things my head can cook up on its own (i.e. “What if I get the flu again NOW?!”) and I was starting to get a little scared.
Fortunately though, Rahul caught me right in the middle of my pity party tonight and gave me a great pep talk. He explained that it’s just like in football when they try to “ice the kicker”–where the opposing team tries to shake the kicker’s confidence by calling a “time out” right before he goes up to kick the winning goal. It was such a great analogy. I have been totally confident and excited about the delivery, and this little “time out” has just been giving me too much time to think.
But don’t worry fans…game face is back ON.
After all, aren’t women made for this?
