Enjoy…

It’s been a while.

I keep telling myself that I need to “catch up” on 2007 posts before I start writing new stuff for this year, but at the rate I was going (0 posts), I wasn’t ever going to get any new stuff up.

So, as a brief catch-up:  Tatiana is walking, signing (her favorite sign is “light”), talking (her only consistent word is “dog”, but we can hear “cat”, “mom” and “dad”, too), dancing (to anything), eating solid food (loves oranges),  and seems to have outgrown her MSPI (Milk Soy Protein Intolerance).  Hopefully we’ll backfill with some posts about all of that.

But tonight, I want to write a quick post about our new morning routine.

We pretty much use Tatiana as our alarm clock.  She wakes up between 6 and 6:15 everyday, which gives us about an hour together before Mindy arrives to take over.

One of us gets up, greets Tatiana with a lively “Good Morning”, or some wake-up song, pulls her out of her crib, and brings her to our bed.  We’ll sit and chit-chat with her for a couple of minutes before one of us gets up to make her bottle and two cups of tea.

Bottle made, tea made, we all sit in the bed and enjoy a morning treat.  Usually Tatiana sits between us on the bed drinking her bottle,  and we sip our tea.

Once her bottle is done (which is usually before our tea is done) we bring a couple of toys to the bed — a book and a  dog-something, and sit around and play together for about half an hour.

It’s a really nice way for the three of us to start our day.  I know that Sarah and I certainly appreciate it.

It’s especially nice for me, I think, because it reminds me a lot of home and my family.  Sheel and I have often spent time sitting at the foot of mom and dad’s bed in the morning having tea, reading horoscopes and talking…  Since Sarah’s joined the family, she’s joined the morning bed as well (when we’re in Milpitas of course), and now we’re going to have to fit Tatiana in, too!   It’s so fun!

Anyway, I’d better get to bed so I can enjoy the morning.

This past weekend has been full of “firsts.” Baby has been sitting up for a while, and working on crawling for a week or two…but last Friday, she started crawling for real! And in the last few days she has also started pulling herself up (including in her crib when she is supposed to be sleeping), talking “sad” instead of just crying sad and holding her own bottle. It’s like she just figured out a whole bunch of things at once.

And she also has two teeth all of a sudden! Baby has exploded!

Poor neglected baby blog. Not taking time for a much overdue post right now, just posting a few videos of our crawling, drinking and carousing baby for those grandmas and aunties that are so far away.

Happy holidays everyone!

When LittleBabyGirl get sleepy, she rubs her eyes.

When she’s particularly sleepy and we’re holding her, she’ll rub her face on our chest our shoulder.

Tonight, she was doing this—rubbing her face on my shoulder—and then she stopped and looked up at my face.

She then reached up with her hand to touch my cheek, and pulled herself up so that we were face to face (I helped a little).

Next, she looked at my face, and pushed her nose gently against my nose.

Finally, she pulled back a little and smiled a big, big smile.

It was magic.

This morning we started Tatiana on solids.

She did not like it. Well, not the eating of it. The playing of it was a blast!

About 3 minutes worth of full-body squash action:

Yeah, we were gone for a bit.

Our web host went out of business without telling us, so I’ve had to reconstruct the blog from the backups that I had…  As you can tell, we’re missing some posts.

I’m going to be trying to reconstruct ‘em from Google’s cache, and try to get caught up.

Medical school is pretty rigorous. Right now Sarah is in the last rotation of her third year of medical school (she’s starting her fourth year a little late because of some baby being born or something), and it’s been the toughest so far. Internal Medicine for those who are curious.

During this rotation she’s had (and will have) a couple of overnights at the hospital as well as some late nights. Tonight is a late night.

We’ve got a really nice routine in the evenings, the three of us, and when Sarah’s not here, it’s a bittersweet. I miss having her here, but I also get some extra one-on-one time with Tatiana.

We had a *very* fun night tonight–after dinner and a couple of diaper changes, of course.

First we danced together for about 20 minutes or so. Louis Armstrong providing the accompaniment.

Then Louis and I had a duet. Louis playing the trumpet, me playing strawberries (that’s what they’re called, right?) on Tatiana’s belly–much to the amusement of all.

Then we played a little hop on pop, which right now is one of Tatiana’s favorite games.

And then, as it was nearing Tatiana’s bed time, we did a bunch of talking. Tatiana gets a bit loopy when she gets tired and usually has a whole lot to say about it.

Finally, the bedtime routine: bath with bathtime song, storytime, and to bed with bedtime song.

Quick: What’s grosser than gross?

GROSS.

I’ve been pretty lucky in the spit-up department. My shirts? Not so much. About half of my favorite t-shirts now have a long dark patch down one side of them. Some of them even have patches on both sides of them!

Today, however, I had the worst spit-up luck EVER.

So, I was holding Tatiana like this:

…and Sarah said she was smiling, so I looked up at her and started to say something… probalby something like “having a good time up there, little baby girl?” Who knows, though, ’cause right when I opened my mouth, it was full of spit-up.

Gross.

I’m not sure if the bile I tasted was mine or hers.

So gross.
